Teen Pregnancy Prevention Programs

We focus on the strengths, skills and possibility within every young person to help them become leaders & make good decisions.

By providing the right tools and safe environments, our programs develop their ability to make healthy decisions and realize their dreams. We have two active teen pregnancy prevention programs – Teen Choice & P.R.I.M.E. Leaders.

Teen Choice

A school-based program helping teens develop critical thinking and communication skills to help them improve and take charge of their physical, social and emotional health, their relationships and their lives. The program started in 1978 as a pregnancy prevention initiative and now empowers thousands of youth.

Teen Choice helps teens:

  • Develop critical thinking and communication skills
  • Reduce risky behavior
  • Make responsible and safe choices about their sexuality
  • Build positive peer support, resist peer pressure and appreciate diversity
  • Set goals and develop skills to help them to be successful in life

Educators and social workers work with students to create environments where they develop and grow best through activities like: peer leadership, in-class lessons, individual counseling, small-group sessions uniquely designed for student-to-student supported learning, and clubs like the Gay Straight Alliance. Youth lead school-wide events to raise awareness, promote respect and prevent bullying, teen pregnancy, AIDS and more.

Teen Choice helps teens realize and engage their capacity to impact many important aspects of their lives. For many, that leads to improved academic performance, better school attendance and aspirations for higher education and positive social relationships.

P.R.I.M.E. (Productive, Resourceful, Innovative, Motivated and Empowered) Leaders

Our Out-of-School Time(OST) program, serving South Bronx youth supplements the school curriculum with meaningful activities everyday after school, on holidays, and over vacations without replicating it. We offer K-12 students with an opportunity to change their world for the better by participating in community based activities.

Our own “Spread-The-Word Campaign” approach guides students through media, entrepreneurship and civic literacy activities to identify, research and address social problems. Students learn how to engage with their peers and adults and advocate for themselves and their communities while having fun.

P.R.I.M.E. helps students to

  • Improve academic performance and attendance
  • Engage in service-learning projects
  • Reduce risky behavior
  • Experience sports and arts activities unavailable in school
  • Receive counseling and support beyond what is offered in school

P.R.I.M.E. also provides access to resources for our student’s parents and caregivers to empower their families and communities. We support their development with workshops for high-school equivalency degrees, ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages), healthy-living and financial literacy.
